Parking, anyone?

What's cool about working in the Vehicle Connected Services department? I get to work with technologies that make your car more than just a way of getting around. They can help you live your life easily, efficiently and to the fullest. What's one small example that I've seen that has impressed me? Parking.

Working with the IoT (internet of things), which is all the information beamed from devices everywhere and how they interact with things, your vehicle can connect to other devices. This means that one car with a certain type of navigation system can have access to information in 400 million other devices. This data is put together. Streets are scanned, driving patterns looked at and traffic analyzed. The result?

Your car can tell you your probability of finding a parking spot on any given urban street in the world based on traffic patterns based on time of day, location and day of the week. This information is gathered from other vehicles and user input

Even more, it can time how long you spend looking for on street parking, packaging it together with info from other cars and telling you and other drivers how long, on average, you'll have to look for a parking spot.

I am an employee of Nissan North America. The opinions expressed are my own.
